If you don’t have access to a lathe but would like to 6 days a week. I may have a solution for you.

Franklin Horner Community Centre has a full work shop with about $20,000.00 worth of new equipment along with some older pieces.

Only one new lathe and two older models though.

It is opened from 8 a.m. till about 9 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. on Saturdays. For Sundays special arrangements can be made.

You would need to buy a membership. The cost is $20.00 per year.

You need to be able to show that you are familiar with the equipment before you use it. Safety is #1.

This is just a group of hobbyists mostly retired folks. They make things for themselves and about 25% of their time is donated to making things for the centre. The centre sells the items and that’s how they raise money for the centre.

If you would like a tour I am usually there Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. til 1 or 2 p.m.

They are located at 432 Horner Avenue  east of Brown’s Line in Etobicoke. To be exact they are at Beta and Horner Ave. www.franklinhorner.org

It is an old school. It is not a new building but many of the pieces of equipment are new. Lots of parking, Lots of machines. There is some wood on site that you can use to make things for the centre and sometimes for yourself.

There are lots of friendly people, male and female. They have a very large lounge for coffee etc.

I think you would enjoy the people there.
